What Are Page Strategies?

Context-aware personalisation for every step of the journey

Overview

Page strategies in Liva 7 define how recommendations behave on different parts of your storefront. Each page type - like Product, Cart, Homepage, or Collection - has its own strategy that determines which recommendation logic to use, how many products to show, and what fallback to apply if signals are limited.

This article explains how page strategies work and how to customise them.

What Is a Page Strategy?

A page strategy is a set of rules that controls:

• The recommendation algorithm used (e.g. Hybrid, Trending, Similar Products)
• The number of products shown
• The fallback behaviour if no strong signals are available
• Whether to use real-time personalisation or static logic

Each page type has its own default strategy, which you can override per widget.

Page strategies let you define how recommendations behave globally - you can still override them per widget.

Default page types in Liva 7

Liva 7 supports strategies for the following page types:

• Homepage
• Product Page (PDP)
• Collection Page
• Cart Page

Each page type has a different shopper intent - and your strategy should reflect that.

Example Strategies by Page Type

Homepage

• Strategy: Trending or Behaviour-Based
• Goal: Re-engage returning visitors with dynamic content
• Fallback: Recently Viewed or Storewide Bestsellers

Product Page

• Strategy: Similar Products or Hybrid
• Goal: Help shoppers discover alternatives or complements
• Fallback: Collection-Based or Manual Curation

Collection Page

• Strategy: Content-Based or Trending
• Goal: Keep shoppers exploring within a category
• Fallback: Top Sellers in Collection

Cart Page

• Strategy: Behaviour-Based or Bundle
• Goal: Increase AOV with relevant add-ons
• Fallback: Frequently Bought Together

Each page has a different purpose - your strategy should match the shopper’s mindset at that moment.

Where to set Page Strategies

You can configure page strategies in the Personalisation Engine settings:

• Go to the Targeting rules tab
• Choose a default strategy for each page type
• Set fallback logic and product limits
• Enable or disable real-time personalisation

Widgets will inherit these settings unless you override them during creation.

When to override

You might want to override the page strategy when:

• You’re testing a new strategy on a specific widget
• You want to highlight a seasonal or promotional product
• You’re using a curated bundle or manual recommendation
• You need different logic for mobile vs desktop

Overrides are set per widget in the “Recommendation Strategy” dropdown.

Strategy + Signals = Smart Personalisation

Page strategies work hand-in-hand with signals. The strategy defines the logic - the signals provide the data. Together, they ensure that every widget is context-aware, relevant, and optimised for the moment.
