How to create a page strategy
Control how recommendations behave on each page type
Overview
Page Strategies in Liva 7 define how recommendations are selected and displayed on each page type - such as product pages, cart, homepage, and more. These strategies act as built-in targeting rules, combining audience segmentation, recommendation logic, and fallback behavior in one place.
Step 1: Go to the Targeting rules tab
From the Liva 7 dashboard, navigate to Targeting Rules. Scroll to the Page Strategies section - this is where you’ll configure logic for each page type.
Step 2: Choose a page type
You’ll see a list of supported page types:
- Product Page
- Cart Page
- Homepage
- Collection Page
- Search Results
Click into the page you want to configure.
Step 3: Configure the strategy
Each page strategy includes:
- Recommendation Strategy: Choose from the following options:
Use Global Algorithm
Default logic defined in your global settings. Use this if you want consistency across all pages or haven’t customized individual strategies yet.
Smart Mix (Recommended)
A dynamic blend of behavioral, similarity, and popularity signals. Automatically adapts based on shopper context and page type. Best for general-purpose personalization.
Customers Also Bought
Shows products frequently purchased together with the current item. Ideal for upselling on product pages and in cart.
Similar Products
Recommends visually or functionally similar items. Great for product discovery and substitution (e.g. out-of-stock alternatives).
Based on Browsing History
Personalized picks based on what the shopper has viewed during their session. Works well on the homepage or collection pages.
Based on Purchase History
Tailored recommendations based on the shopper’s past orders. Best for returning customers and loyalty segments.
Trending Now
Highlights popular products across your store. Useful for homepage and collection pages to drive urgency and social proof.
New Arrivals
Surfaces recently added products. Ideal for showcasing fresh inventory or seasonal launches.
Each strategy uses different signals - like behavior, purchase history, or popularity - to tailor recommendations.
Step 5: Save and test
Once your strategy is configured:
- Click Save to apply your changes
- Use the Session Simulator to test how the strategy behaves for different customer types and product contexts
Tips for success
- Use Smart Mix for most pages unless you have a specific merchandising goal
- Combine Customers Also Bought with cart pages to increase AOV
- Use Trending Now or New Arrivals on the homepage to drive engagement
- Tailor strategies by audience segment for maximum relevance
- Always define a fallback to ensure coverage for low-data scenarios
