How to add your first Liva 7 theme block

Overview

Liva 7 uses Shopify theme blocks to display all personalised content on your storefront. These blocks act as spaces where Liva 7 can place AI recommendations, widgets, Smart Content banners, and bundle suggestions.

Adding your first block is quick, safe, and unlocks the entire Personalisation Engine.

Why Theme Blocks are required

Shopify requires apps to use theme blocks to display content. This means:

• If a block isn’t added, nothing from Liva 7 can appear on your store - even if everything is set up correctly.
• Blocks are simply placeholders. Once added, Liva 7 fills them with the right content based on your settings.
• You only need to add each block once, and you can remove them at any time.

Start with the 'Product Recs Block' on the Homepage (Recommended)

The fastest way to see Liva 7 working is to add the Products Recs block to your Homepage.

This block is already configured with a default strategy, so you’ll see recommendations immediately - no widget setup required.

It gives you an instant 'aha moment' and helps you understand how Liva 7 works before exploring deeper personalisation.

How to add the Product Recs Block to your Homepage

1. Open your Shopify admin
2. Go to Online Store → Themes
3. Click 'Edit theme' on your live theme
4. Use the top dropdown to select 'Homepage' if not already selected
5. In the left panel, click 'Add block'
6. Important: Select the 'Apps' tab (not 'Sections') and search for 'Liva 7'
7. Choose 'Liva 7 Products Recs Block'
8. Position it where you want it
9. Click 'Save'

This step is safe, reversible, and takes less than a minute.

What you’ll see after adding the block

Inside the theme editor, you’ll see a placeholder with AI recommendations. On your live store:

• The homepage will immediately show AI recommendations
• You can add 'Product Recs Block' to other pages in exactly the same way, to show AI recommendations
• Other blocks are available to personalise further, including widgets, Smart Content and bundles created inside the app.

Adding Liva 7 'Products Rec Block' to other pages

You add Liva 7 blocks to other pages in the same way you add them to the homepage. Open the theme editor, switch to the page template you want to personalise, and look under the Apps tab to find the Liva 7 block for that page.

What the Product Recs Block shows

The Product Recs Block displays AI powered product recommendations that match the intent of the page. The strategy changes automatically depending on where the block is placed:

• Product page
  Shows items that complement or relate to the product being viewed. Ideal for cross sells and alternatives.
• Collection page
  Highlights products that fit the shopper’s browsing behaviour inside that collection.
• Cart page
  Suggests relevant add ons based on what is already in the cart.
• Search results page
  Surfaces personalised product suggestions that align with the shopper’s search intent.

These strategies require no setup. The block adapts automatically and begins showing personalised recommendations as soon as it is added to the page.

How to add blocks to other pages

• Switch to the correct page template in the theme editor, for example Product, Collection, Cart or Search.
• Click Add section.
• Open the Apps tab.
• Select the Liva 7 block for that page.
• Position it where you want it to appear and click Save.

More blocks are available as you create widgets, Smart Content and bundles inside the app.

If your Theme has multiple templates

Some themes include templates like:

• product
• product.default
• product.custom
• collection.alternate

Make sure you add the block to the template your store actually uses.

If you’re unsure, check which template is assigned to your products or collections in Shopify.

Widget Blocks

These allow Liva 7 to insert personalised, behaviour-based content such as:

• dynamic product suggestions
• contextual recommendations
• content that adapts to browsing patterns

Add the 'Widget' block to any page where you want your Widgets to appear.

Smart Content Blocks

Used to display:

• personalised banners
• messages
• offers
• announcements
• behavioural nudges

Add the 'Smart Content' block to any page where you want Smart Content to appear.

Smart Bundle Block

Displays:

• AI-generated bundles
• frequently bought together sets
• personalised bundle suggestions

Add the 'Bundle' block to any page where you want your bundles to appear.

Troubleshooting: If nothing appears

Common causes:

• The block wasn’t added to the correct template
• The block was added but not saved
• The Personalisation Engine is turned off
• No widget exists for that page type
• Smart Content has no matching segment or trigger
• The block was added from 'Sections' instead of 'Apps'
• The theme is not Online Store 2.0

Adding the correct block solves most visibility issues.

Once your first block is added and you’ve seen Liva 7 live on your store, you can expand personalisation by:

• creating widgets for product, collection, and cart pages
• setting up Smart Content banners, messages, and offers
• enabling AI bundle recommendations
