Smart Content explained
Personalised banners, messages and offers powered by segments, rules and AI targeting
Overview
Smart Content is Liva 7’s system for showing personalised banners, messages and offers to the right shoppers at the right time. It is separate from product recommendations and does not use Personalisation Widgets. Smart Content uses segments, display rules, triggers, frequency controls and AI targeting to decide who should see each piece of content.
Smart Content is ideal for welcome messages, targeted offers, urgency prompts, returning‑visitor messages, seasonal campaigns and any content that should adapt to each shopper.
Smart Content personalises banners, messages and offers, not product recommendations.
Creating Smart Content
When you click Create Smart Content, you begin defining who should see the content, what type of content it is and when it should appear.
Smart Content is built from four core elements:
1. Segment
The segment defines who should see the content. Examples include:
- new visitors
- returning visitors
- high‑intent shoppers
- cart abandoners
- customers with past purchases
- custom segments you create
Segments ensure each piece of content is shown only to the shoppers it is designed for.
2. Content type
You can choose from three content types:
Banner
A visual banner with image, headline and optional call‑to‑action.
Message
A simple text message, ideal for nudges, reassurance or urgency.
Offer
A promotional message with optional discount code or incentive.
Each content type has its own editor and layout options.
3. Display rules
Display rules control where and under what conditions the content appears.
For example:
- show only on product pages
- hide on the cart page
- show only when the shopper has viewed at least two products
- show only when the shopper has items in their cart
Rules ensure content appears in the right context.
4. Trigger
Triggers define when the content should activate.
Examples include:
- on page load
- after a delay
- after scrolling
- after viewing a product
- after adding to cart
Triggers help you time the message so it feels natural and helpful.
5. Frequency
Frequency controls how often a shopper sees the content.
You can limit:
- once per session
- once per day
- once per shopper
- unlimited
This prevents over‑messaging and keeps the experience clean.
6. AI targeting preview
If you have no Smart Content created yet, the AI targeting preview shows how Liva 7 will decide who receives each message. This helps you understand how segments, rules and triggers interact with AI scoring.

After Smart Content is created
Once saved, your Smart Content becomes active inside the Smart Content dashboard.
However, it will not appear on your storefront until you add the correct theme block.
Creating Smart Content does not display it. You must add the Smart Content block in your theme.
Real‑world examples
Here are examples of how different types of retailers use Smart Content to personalise their storefront experience.
Fashion store
Shows a Smart Content banner on product pages for high intent visitors with a message such as 'Style it your way' to encourage deeper browsing.
Electronics brand
Displays a Smart Content message in the cart such as 'Don't forget your accessories' when shoppers add a device to their basket.
Home decor shop
Shows a Smart Content message for returning visitors such as 'Welcome back, see what's new' to highlight new arrivals.
Beauty retailer
Targets cart abandoners with a Smart Content offer such as 'Still thinking it over? Here's 10% off to help you decide'.
Smart Content automatically selects and displays the most relevant message or offer based on the shopper's segment, behaviour and page context.
Why Smart Content matters
Smart content widgets let you:
- Personalise every page with minimal effort
- Deliver targeted content based on real-time behaviour
- Feed your Smart Content block with rich, relevant options
- Reinforce your brand voice through styling and messaging
- Increase conversion by showing the right content to the right shopper
The more diverse and targeted your Smart Content is, the more powerful your Smart Content block becomes.
