Managing rules and logic
Control what appears in recommendations by excluding products, collections, and shaping rule behaviour.
Overview
While Liva 7’s personalisation engine is designed to optimise for performance, there are times when you need to override the algorithm - whether to hide certain products or ensure others are always featured. The Rules tab gives you full control over what appears in your recommendation blocks.
Excluded products
Remove specific items from all recommendation surfaces
- Add any product you don’t want to appear in recommendations
- Useful for out-of-stock items, seasonal products, or discontinued SKUs
- Once excluded, these products will be hidden from all widgets and bundles
- You can remove exclusions at any time
Example: Exclude a product that’s being phased out or has low inventory to avoid promoting it.
Excluded collections
Hide entire categories from personalisation
- Exclude full collections (e.g. “Gift Cards” or “Clearance”) from recommendations
- Ideal for categories that don’t benefit from personalisation or have unique pricing rules
- Excluded collections apply across all widgets and bundles
Use this to prevent low-margin or non-promotable items from being recommended.
Pinned recommendations
Manually prioritise key products
- Pin specific products to always appear first in selected recommendation blocks
- Great for promoting new arrivals, high-margin items, or campaign-specific products
- Pinned products override algorithmic rankings but still appear within the same widget layout
- You can pin multiple products and reorder them as needed
Example: Pin a new product to the top of your homepage widget during launch week.
Fallback behaviour
Control what shoppers see when signals are limited
- Choose a default fallback strategy for when personalization data is unavailable
- Options include: Trending Products, Best-Selling Products, Related Products
- Fallbacks ensure your widgets always show relevant content, even for new visitors or low-signal pages
Best Practice: Use fallback logic that aligns with your store’s merchandising goals and audience behaviour.
Flexibility and control
The Exclusions and Pins tab gives you the flexibility to blend algorithmic intelligence with human judgment. Whether you’re removing sensitive products, prioritising key launches, or setting smart defaults, this tab ensures your recommendations reflect both performance and brand priorities.
