Smart Bundles

Guide status: Operating-system guidance. Last reviewed 14 August 2026. Bundle controls, publication routes and reported measures depend on the installed Liva 7 version and Shopify configuration.

Purpose

Smart Bundles is the merchandising part of the operating system concerned with useful product relationships. It connects evidence about products and buying patterns with eligibility, commercial rules, storefront placement and measurement.

A relationship between products is not automatically a bundle worth publishing. The customer proposition, availability, margin, market rules and presentation all matter. Liva 7 should help structure that decision while leaving Shopify-controlled product, price, publication and billing boundaries clear.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the products and variants are eligible, available and appropriate for the target market.
  • Define whether the aim is discovery, convenience, order composition or another measurable outcome.
  • Check discount, margin, tax, shipping and brand constraints.
  • Confirm the intended storefront placement exists and can be verified.

Assess the relationship

Begin with why the products belong together. An observed co-purchase pattern, a catalogue relationship and a modelled complement are different evidence classes. Review the time window, order volume, product availability and possible confounding effects such as promotions or seasonality.

Then define the customer proposition in plain language. The combination should be understandable, truthful and useful without relying on the customer to decode internal merchandising logic.

Controlled bundle workflow

  1. Qualify: choose eligible products or variants and exclude unsuitable combinations.
  2. Set guardrails: record inventory, margin, market, quantity and discount constraints.
  3. Prepare: create the title, supporting content and placement configuration.
  4. Review: check accuracy, accessibility, mobile layout and the authority required.
  5. Publish: complete any merchant-controlled Shopify step and record the action state.
  6. Verify: confirm the intended experience is actually visible and purchasable on the live storefront.
  7. Measure: observe exposure, interaction, basket behaviour and commercial guardrails without claiming causality where none was tested.

Safe use and fallback

If an item becomes unavailable or ineligible, the experience should degrade safely: omit the invalid item, use an approved fallback, or withhold the bundle. It should not show a broken purchase path, inaccurate saving or unavailable combination. If price or inventory cannot be confirmed, prefer the existing product experience until the state is resolved.

Automated changes should remain inside explicit product, discount, placement and duration limits. Material price changes, new billing commitments and irreversible Shopify actions should remain merchant-controlled.

You are finished when

  • the relationship and customer benefit are supported and clearly stated;
  • eligibility and commercial guardrails are recorded;
  • publication and live verification are complete; and
  • fallback and measurement rules are understood.
