How to fix a Personalisation widget that is not appearing
Step-by-step instructions to diagnose and resolve missing personalisation widgets in Liva 7.
Overview
A personalisation widget may not appear for several reasons, including incorrect theme placement, wrong page type assignment, strategy issues, or fallback taking priority.
Most issues are simple to fix and relate to the Shopify theme block or the widget configuration.
This guide walks you through the exact steps to identify the cause and get your widget showing correctly.
In most cases, the widget is working correctly but the theme block or page type is misconfigured.
Confirm that the correct Liva 7 block Is added
A Personalisation widget cannot appear unless the correct Liva 7 theme block is placed on the page.
To check:
- Open Shopify admin
- Go to Online Store → Themes
- Click 'Edit theme'
- Use the top dropdown to select the page you are testing
- Look for a Liva 7 block under the 'Apps' tab
You should see a block called Liva 7 Widget block added to your page.
If you added a block from 'Sections' instead of 'Apps', the widget will never appear.
Make sure you have created the correct widget
If you have added the Liva 7 Widget block to your theme and no products are appearing, it usually means that no Personalisation Widget exists for that page type.
The Widget block can only display widgets that you have created inside the app, so if no matching widget has been set up, the block will remain empty in both the Theme Editor and on your storefront.
To fix this, open Liva 7, go to the Personalisation Engine and create a widget for the specific page type you are working on - such as Homepage, Product Page, Collection Page or Cart Page.
Once a widget exists for that page type, the Widget block will load recommendations automatically.
Adding a block to 'product.alternate' will not show a widget on 'product'.
Verify that the Widget Is assigned to the correct page type
A widget only works on the page type it is assigned to.
To check:
- Go to Personalisation Engine
- Click 'Manage Widgets'
- Open the widget
- Confirm the 'Page Type' matches the page you are testing
A homepage widget will never appear on a product page.
Check that the widget strategy can return products
If the strategy cannot return enough products, the widget will not appear.
To test:
- Edit the widget
- Change the strategy to 'Trending'
- Save
- Refresh your storefront
If the widget appears now, the original strategy did not have enough products.
Strategies like 'Recently viewed' may show nothing for new visitors.
Confirm that the widget Is saved and active
If the widget was not saved, it will not appear.
To check:
- Go to Personalisation Engine
- Click 'Manage Widgets'
- Confirm the widget appears in the list
- Confirm it is not disabled
If the widget is missing from the table, it was never saved or was deleted.
Make sure the block Is visible on the page
A widget will not appear if the block is inside a hidden or conditional section.
Check:
- Open the theme editor
- Expand all sections
- Ensure the Liva 7 block is visible
- Ensure the section is not hidden on mobile or desktop
- Save
Hidden sections are one of the most common causes of missing widgets.
Check for competing widgets
If multiple widgets exist for the same page type, Liva 7 chooses the most relevant one.
Your widget may not be selected.
To test:
- Edit your widget
- Change the display type (for example, switch from carousel to grid)
- Save
- Refresh the storefront
If the layout does not change, another widget is being selected.
Liva 7 never shows multiple widgets in the same block.
Test in an incognito window
Your own browsing history may affect what you see.
To test cleanly:
- Open an incognito window
- Visit the page as a new visitor
- Clear recently viewed history
- Refresh the page
- Temporarily change the widget display type to identify it
