Targeting specific audiences in Liva 7

How to deliver the right message to the right shopper, at the right time

Overview

Liva 7's audience targeting lets you go beyond generic personalization. Instead of showing the same block to everyone, you can tailor content to specific types of shoppers based on their behavior, purchase history, and session context.

This means your homepage, product pages, and even cart can adapt in real time - not just to what a shopper is doing, but to who they are.

What audience targeting can do

Audience targeting allows you to:

  • Show different widgets to different types of shoppers
  • Prioritize high-intent or high-value segments
  • Deliver tailored offers, messages, or product blocks
  • Create journeys that feel personal from first visit to checkout

You can apply targeting to any smart content widget - and when used with the AI Dynamic Content block, Liva 7 automatically chooses the best widget for each audience.

Targeting is how you make personalization feel intentional - not just automated.

Built-in audience segments

Liva 7 includes several pre-defined segments you can use right away:

  • New Visitors - First-time shoppers with no prior session history
Best for: Welcome messages, bestsellers, discovery content
  • Returning Visitors - Shoppers who have visited before but not purchased
Best for: Recently viewed, trending now, personalized picks
  • High Intent - Visitors showing strong signals (e.g. cart adds, deep browsing)
Best for: Urgency messaging, bundles, upsells
  • Cart Abandoners - Shoppers who left with items in cart
Best for: Recovery offers, reassurance, free shipping
  • Purchasers - Customers who have completed an order
Best for: Loyalty offers, reorder suggestions, cross-sells

You can also create custom segments based on tags, behaviors, or Shopify customer data.

How to apply targeting to a widget

  1. Create or edit a smart content widget in the Personalization Engine
  2. Scroll to the Targeting section
  3. Choose one or more segments to include or exclude
  4. Save and publish

If you're using the AI Dynamic Content block, Liva 7 will automatically evaluate all available widgets and show the one that best matches the current shopper and page.

Smart targeting strategies by page

Homepage

  • New visitors: 'Trending Now' or 'Welcome to [Brand]' banner,
  • Returners: 'Recently Viewed' or 'Because You Liked...'
  • Purchasers: 'You Might Also Love' with cross-sells

Product Page:

High intent: 'Complete the Look' or 'Frequently Bought Together,

Returners: 'Inspired by Your Browsing',

Cart abandoners: 'Still thinking it over?' message

Cart Page:

High intent: Add-on bundles or urgency messaging

Cart abandoners: Free shipping or discount offer

Purchasers: Loyalty points reminder or referral prompt

You can stack targeting with page type and strategy - for example, show a 'Frequently Bought Together' block only to high-intent shoppers on product pages.

Real-world examples

  • Fashion brand
Shows a 'New Season Picks' block to new visitors, but switches to 'Your Style, Your Way' for returners who’ve browsed dresses.
  • Electronics store
Displays a 'Don’t forget your accessories' widget in the cart, but only for shoppers who added a laptop and haven’t purchased yet.
  • Beauty retailer
Offers a 10% discount banner to cart abandoners, while showing loyalty members a 'Thanks for coming back' message with free samples.

Precise targeting wins every time

Audience targeting is where personalization becomes precision. By tailoring content to specific shopper types, you can create a storefront that feels like it was built just for them. The more intentional your targeting, the more relevant your experience - and the more likely shoppers are to convert.
