How to read acquisition quality beyond last click
The source credited with an order is not automatically the source that created every part of its value.

Last-click reporting is useful for a defined question: which eligible source received credit immediately before a recorded outcome under this method? It is not a complete explanation of discovery, consideration, purchase quality or repeat behaviour.
Acquisition quality improves when arrival evidence remains linked to landing experience and downstream commercial outcomes without pretending one source caused the entire journey.
Keep provider definitions intact
Shopify orders, analytics sessions, Search Console clicks and ad-platform conversions can cover different populations and windows. Display the account, market, retrieval time and provider definition rather than blending them as identical events.
Reconcile where an approved identifier and method allow it. Where they do not, compare trends and explain the limit. A discrepancy can be a useful diagnostic rather than a number to smooth away.
Follow what happens after arrival
Review landing-page engagement, product attention, basket progress, purchase, returns and repeat timing for the selected arrival group. A low-volume source may bring customers who return; a high-volume source may create weak fit or expensive returns.
Use your current business goal. If profitable first purchase matters, cost and contribution are central. If durable customer value matters, repeat and lifecycle windows need time to mature.
A practical route
- Choose one acquisition question. Define source, market, period and desired downstream outcome.
- Map available events. Show which source recorded click, session, conversion and order.
- Compare quality. Add return, repeat, product and contribution evidence where valid.
- Select a testable response. Improve a landing answer, feed condition, audience or storefront experience.
Keep these checks visible
- Use consistent currency and date boundaries
- Declare attribution windows
- Wait for lifecycle outcomes before judging long-term quality
Better acquisition decisions come from asking what arrived, what happened next and which conclusion the joined evidence can genuinely support.
